New Low Cost, Air Cooled UV Laser

San Jose, CA
March 25, 2001

DPSS Lasers Inc. introduced its new 50mW, 50 kHz, 355 nm, air cooled laser this week at the annual NASUG
conference. This low cost, small footprint laser offers increased reliability, longer lifetime and greater power
stability than similar lasers currently on the market. The new SS-250 is targeted at applications that currently
rely on inefficient, low lifetime gas lasers.
The engineering team at DPSS Lasers Inc. drew upon several decades of laser design and manufacturing
experience to produce this highly efficient laser system. Of the many innovations incorporated into the SS-250,
the most significant is the elimination of any liquid cooling system. Instead, the laser is completely air cooled,
significantly reducing manufacturing costs. Additionally the total component count has been minimized to further
increase manufacturability and reduce costs. Says Alex Laymon, president of DPSS Laser Inc., "the new SS-250
laser is going to launch DPSS into markets we haven't been able to tap as of yet. We see this system as an
aggressively priced alternative to a UV gas laser, especially for the stereolithography market.”
The new SS-250 will be displayed again, May 8th - 11th, at the annual CLEO exhibit in Baltimore and also at
the Rapid Prototyping & Manufacturing Show in Cincinnati, OH, on May 15th - 17th. The company also hopes to
be able to develop a market for the 532 nm and 1064 NM outputs available in the SS-250.
