3 Watt UV Laser Demonstrated

DPSS Lasers Inc. today demonstrated a 3 Watt UV laser, ready for production. The 
new high power system is based on the proven architecture of the company's Model 
3500 laser system, taking advantage of their patented intra-cavity frequency 
conversion and DiSC pumping scheme. When asked for comment, Engineering Manager, 
Oscar Varela noted, "the laser was designed from the ground up to be easily scalable, 
so achieving the 3 Watt spec. took very little effort." The company has also announced 
plans to release a 5 Watt version in the coming months to further target the micro 
machining and direct write markets. The new 3 Watt laser system will be displayed 
May 8th - 11th, at the annual CLEO exhibit in Baltimore, MD
