Key Patent Granted for Intra-Cavity Tripling Technology for
Diode-Pumped Solid State Lasers
Santa Clara, CA
February 11, 2000
DPSS Lasers, Inc. announced today that patent # 6,002,695, entitled "High Efficiency High Repetition
Rate, Intra-cavity Tripled Diode Pumped Solid State Laser," was granted on December 14, 1999 for
the company's technology. The patent covers intra-cavity tripling of all diode-pumped solid state lasers,
and applies not only to the UV lasers currently being developed and marketed by the company, but to
other intra-cavity tripled laser products as well.
"We believe the intra-cavity tripling method covered under the '695 patent is the most cost-effective way
to produce a low noise, high power, high rep rate solid state UV laser, and that this will gain increasing
recognition as development of diode pumped solid state laser technologies continues," said Alex Laymon,
president of DPSS Lasers, Inc. "Not only does the patent protect the work started over 6 years ago and
products sold by the company today, but it will be the basis of new research and development into ultraviolet
lasers not currently on the market."
The current product offerings from DPSS Lasers, Inc. are based primarily on the technology described in
the patent. Ultraviolet (355nm) products include a 1.0 Watt average output power laser at 30 kHz repetition
rate and a 500 mW average output power laser at 100 kHz repetition rate. These lasers have been sold into
the stereolithography, micromachining and biomedical fields. DPSS Lasers, Inc. is pursuing an active licensing
program under the above referenced patent.
