Mark W. Dowley, PhD, became Chairman of the Company in 1998. From 1972 to 1998, Dr. Dowley was President of LiCONiX. Prior to founding LiCONiX in 1972, Dr. Dowley was Director of Research at Coherent, Inc. From 1967 to 1968, Dr. Dowley was a research scientist at Spectra Physics, Inc. Prior to joining Spectra Physics; Dr. Dowley was a researcher at IBM Research Laboratory. Dr. Dowley received his B.Sc. in Physics at University College Dublin, Ireland in 1956, his M.A. at University of Toronto, Canada in 1957 and his Ph.D. at University of Toronto, Canada in 1959.
Thomas M. Hogan became Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Secretary and Director of the Company in 1998. Mr. Hogan was a founder of LiCONiX in 1972 and was a Director and financial consultant to LiCONiX from 1972 to 1992. He joined LiCONiX on a full-time basis as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 1992 continuing in that capacity through 1998. Mr. Hogan was Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Secretary, and a Director of Intech Incorporated, a publicly traded firm in Santa Clara from 1972 to 1992. From 1969 to 1972, Mr. Hogan was Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Coherent Inc. and was responsible for their initial public offering. Prior to 1969, he was an auditor for Arthur Andersen in San Francisco. Mr. Hogan received his B.S. in Accounting & Finance from San Jose State University in 1964 and is a California Certified Public Accountant.
Alex Laymon became President and Director of the Company in 1998. From May 1994, Mr. Laymon had been the Vice President of Engineering at LiCONiX. From 1987 to 1994, he held a series of technical positions at LiCONiX, including Engineering Manager and Senior Laser Engineer. From 1986 to 1987, Mr. Laymon was employed by Uniphase Corporation on the R&D staff. Mr. Laymon received his B.S. in Engineering Physics in 1986 and his M.B.A. in 1993 at Santa Clara University.
Donald L. Lucas joined the Company's Board in 1998. Mr. Lucas was a Director of LiCONiX from 1978 to 1998. Mr. Lucas received his B.A. Degree from Stanford University in 1951 and his M.B.A. degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1953. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, Mr. Lucas worked in the Corporate Finance Department of Smith Barney and Company in New York for four years. In 1960, Mr. Lucas began a seven year participation, as both a general partner and a limited partner, with Draper, Gaither & Anderson, the first venture capital firm organized on the West Coast. Since 1967, Mr. Lucas has been actively engaged in venture capital activities as a private individual. Mr. Lucas currently serves as a board member of Oracle Corporation, Cadence Design Systems, Inc., Macromedia, Inc., Tricord Systems, Inc. and PDF Solutions. Mr. Lucas also serves as a Director for several privately held companies. Mr. Lucas is actively involved in political, educational and community programs, such as the Stanford University Alumni Association, Stanford Graduate School of Business Alumni Association, and Zeta Psi. He also serves as a Director for the American Council for Capital Formation and as a Board Member for the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy and Research. He has been a Regent of the University of Santa Clara and Chairman of the Board of Regents for Bellarmine College Preparatory. He is a member of the Order of Malta.
J. Michael Mallick joined the Company's Board in 1998. Mr. Mallick was director of LiCONiX from 1975 to 1998. Mr. Mallick has been a private investor for many years. He recently retired as Vice President of Cantor, Fitzgerald & Company in Beverly Hills, CA.
